To implement AI in a business, start with one workflow and a short test, not a company-wide rollout. A 30-day plan gives a small team time to define the work, build a controlled pilot, observe real use and decide whether to continue.

Week 1: select and map the process

Choose a repetitive task with a named owner: for example, sorting incoming requests or extracting invoice fields for review. Draw the steps from arrival to completion. Mark systems, people, sensitive data, decisions and exceptions. Write down a baseline such as handling time or correction count.

Week 2: set boundaries and build

Decide which information may enter the chosen tool, who can access it, how long records are retained and where a human must approve an output. Create a test set that includes ordinary cases and awkward ones. Build the smallest version that covers the agreed path. Leave unsupported cases in the existing process.

Week 3: run a supervised pilot

Use the workflow with a small group. Compare proposed outputs with source records. Log errors by type, missing information, review time and fallback use. Make it easy for staff to correct the result and report an unusual case. Keep the old route available while the pilot is being evaluated.

Week 4: decide with evidence

Compare the pilot with the baseline, including setup, supervision, subscription, maintenance and exception costs. Ask the people using it whether the change fits the work. Continue only if the benefits are clear and the safeguards hold. Otherwise adjust the process or stop the pilot.

The NIST AI Risk Management Framework organizes work around governing, mapping, measuring and managing risk. It is a useful structure for decisions and oversight; it does not replace legal, security or sector-specific review.

Frequently asked question

Can AI be implemented in 30 days?

A narrow pilot can often be designed and tested in a month when access, scope and decision-makers are available. A full deployment with complex integrations, regulated data or changes to core operations can take longer. Confirm the work and dependencies before setting a delivery date.
